Job Description – Senior Functional SAP HCM and Payroll Consultant

Fantastic opportunity to join a large diverse team of NTT Data Business Solutions dedicated support team consultants, working full time and reporting to our UK payroll lead. Our client have just moved from 47 bespoke IT products to 1 fully integrated SAP suite, so it’s an exciting time to join this key strategic change project. Our days consist of technical and process support, analysing and optimising where possible, we also are involved in implementing tailored solutions to suit their needs, service and maintenance of their SAP system landscape. We work collaboratively with our own teams, the project delivery teams and our customers to ensure long-term support excellence and vision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide estimates in a timely manner and communicate deliverable status to stakeholders.
  • Analyse, configure and implement appropriate solutions with the support of the other Functional/Development Consultants when applicable
  • Strong communicator; able to communicate confidently with customers and Service Delivery Managers, keeping all up-to-date with progress of deliverables. Can positively influence different stakeholders; is accepted at various levels as an appropriate partner in discussions.  Has a calm approach in stressful situations in which they take responsibility and has great personal integrity.
  • Problem solving: uses own initiative to look for solutions/opportunities for improvement and is willing to make decisions; recognises overarching problems as well as political situations and escalates these if necessary
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach, commitment, and flexibility both internally and externally; gets results and proactively supports others.
  • Understands business process; can arrange their own tasks and workload and implement the strategy, with the aim of developing the business further. Accepts responsibility for own tasks and projects and manages these in terms of quality, productivity and resources.  Recognises risks in the project/ tasks and provides suggestions for minimizing them.
  • Recognises the potential for small levels of repeat business due to the implemented project and realizes these; notifies the person responsible when there is greater potential for repeat business
  • Employee Development: supports on boarding and actively helps juniors with their career (can function as a "Start-up Coach")



  • Broad experience across the SAP HR spectrum including HCM PA, HCM OM & CATS modules
  • SAP ECC UK Payroll with good demonstrable knowledge of the following:
    • Multiple employment
    • Wage type configuration
    • Pensions Auto enrolment
    • Public Sector pensions
    • UK Specific Occupational and Statutory absence processing
    • PCR /Payroll functions
    • Averages
    • Court Orders
    • RTI
  • Knowledge of integration with SAP SuccessFactors via Business Integration Builder
  • Knowledge of integration with SAP S/4HANA
  • Ability to technically analyse programme issues through debug
  • Ability to provide advice and guidance regarding statutory/legal obligations
  • Ability to provide advice and guidance knowledgeably with Payroll business users
  • Desirable to also have knowledge of Irish payroll solution
  • Desirable to have knowledge of SF EC to SAP ECC middleware (cloud connector/CPI)
  • Desirable to have knowledge of ESS and MSS
  • Good integration skills with other key SAP functional areas
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Excellent documentation skills including the writing and estimating of functional specifications, test scripts
  • Work within a remote consulting support team for contracted customers using the NTT Data service management systems and processes and delivering within defined SLA or requested dates
  • Feedback potential solutions in a logical way for both SAP knowledgeable and non-knowledgeable audiences.
  • A strong ability to understand business processes and design appropriate solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills for working with the functional and customer teams
  • Track record of full project lifecycle and development activities.
  • Can act as liaison with client for troubleshooting ie strong skills regarding investigation, analysis, and problem solving. Able to map client business requirements, processes and objectives.
  • Ability to provide end to end business solutions.
  • Ability to oversee larger pieces of work.
  • Proven experience in a combined customer service handling / functional support role.
  • Experience within a consultant environment an advantage.
  • Experience of motivating and leading others or deputising in the team leader’s absence.
  • Experience of providing structured feedback and coaching others.
  • Capable of managing own workload with minimal supervision to tight deadlines
  • Able to prioritise and distribute team workload effectively.
  • Able to deal with challenging customer and resource issues in a professional and supportive manner and to see these through to resolution.
  • Keen to offer ideas and solutions to develop the AMS Functional Support function.
  • Ability to encourage ideas from ground level up.
