Job Description — SAP ABAP Consultant (Level 1)
Position Summary
The SAP ABAP Consultant – Level 1 supports the design, development, testing, and maintenance of SAP custom developments under the guidance of senior ABAP consultants and functional teams. This role is suitable for an entry-level professional with foundational knowledge of SAP ABAP programming and SAP business processes.
Key Responsibilities
•    Develop and maintain basic ABAP programs, reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, and workflows.
•    Support the development of classical reports, interactive reports, ALV reports, and executable programs.
•    Assist in debugging ABAP programs and resolving production support tickets within agreed timelines.
•    Develop and modify SAP Smart Forms, SAPscript forms, and Adobe Forms as required.
•    Assist with enhancements using user exits, customer exits, BAdIs, implicit enhancements, and explicit enhancements.
•    Support development and maintenance of data dictionary objects, including tables, structures, views, domains, data elements, and search helps.
•    Assist with BDC, BAPI, IDoc, RFC, and file-interface developments.
•    Work with functional consultants to understand functional specifications and translate them into technical solutions.
•    Prepare technical specifications, unit-test evidence, and development documentation.
•    Perform unit testing, support SIT/UAT, analyze defects, and implement approved fixes.
•    Participate in code reviews and follow established ABAP development standards, naming conventions, and transport procedures.
•    Support transport movement across DEV, QA, and Production landscapes.
•    Monitor assigned incidents, service requests, and change requests through closure.
•    Maintain clear communication with project leads, functional consultants, and business users.
Required Skills and Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
•    1-2 years of experience in SAP ABAP development or SAP support.
•    Basic knowledge of ABAP programming concepts, including:
•    Internal tables, work areas, loops, modularization, and debugging
•    Reports and ALV reporting
•    Data Dictionary objects
•    Smart Forms / SAPscript / Adobe Forms
•    BDC, BAPI, RFC, IDoc, and file handling
•    User exits, customer exits, BAdIs, and enhancements
•    Familiarity with SAP development tools such as SE80, SE38, SE11, SE37, SE24, SE91, and ST22.
•    Basic understanding of SAP transport management and landscape concepts: DEV, QA, and PROD.
•    Exposure to SAP modules such as MM, SD, FI/CO, PP, HCM, or EWM is preferred.
•    Basic awareness of S/4HANA concepts, CDS views, AMDP, OData, and Fiori is an advantage.
•    Good analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively in a team environment.
•    Good written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
•    SAP ABAP training or certification.
•    Exposure to SAP S/4HANA implementation, rollout, or AMS projects.
•    Knowledge of ABAP Objects and object-oriented programming concepts.
•    Familiarity with ticketing tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, or SAP Solution Manager.
•    Understanding of Agile or ITIL-based support processes.

•    Quality and accuracy of ABAP developments and defect fixes.
•    Adherence to development standards, documentation requirements, and transport procedures.
•    Successful completion of unit testing and support for SIT/UAT.

•    Positive feedback from functional teams and business stakeholders.
