The Project Manager is the person assigned by the organization to lead the team that is responsible for achieving the project objectives and success.
We are considering as “Project” a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product (package configuration, application custom development, system integration), service (training, take over for a service), or result (data migration, infrastructure / equipment installation and setup).
Project Manager Tasks
- Manages successfully the entire project lifecycle from start up through to final acceptance and close-down, understands business objectives and constraints, sharing them with the team and controlling the outcomes, maximizes the value provided to the customer.
- Proactively coordinates project activities and leads the project team while committed to teamwork and outcomes, manages priorities and minimizes risk and cost, taking all necessary measures to achieve expected results, delegating and removing obstacles to get work done.
- Coaches and motivates the project team, gaining the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity and authenticity.
- Empowers project team members to be more proactive and independent, supporting performance improvement and skills development while retaining highly skilled employees and ensuring outstanding people experience.
- Accountable for conforming to agreed upon standards of quality, cyber security and data privacy.
- Manages Oversees all the project communications and improvement actions.
- Establishes and proactively manages Project team capacity, including management of internal and external resources such as third parties, contractors and subcontractors.
- Provides accurate resource forecasts at any point for use in decision making around project request management, release planning or change impact analysis against the agreed commercial signed contract.
- Understands and demonstrates the principles of professional PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP), providing reliable service to sponsors, key stakeholders and colleagues.
- Ensures prudent usage of approved budget, and contingency funds, using defined controls, processes and supporting tools.;
- Acts as the first point of escalation.
- Responsible for proactively managing RAID (Risk, Assumption, Issue and Dependencies)
- Coordinates the stakeholder assessment to understand which stakeholders should provide input or direction to achieve the project objectives and their unique needs.
- Responsible for liaising with all stakeholders as needed with effective and timely communication.
- Uses their expertise and knowledge (technical, business and strategic) to support appropriate decision making, making informed and timely decisions to keep the project moving forward.
- Ensures detailed and up-to-date documentation is produced and maintained for the solutions and services in scope being delivered.
- Tracks and controls tasks, deliverables and services against the baseline, and monitors with objective evaluation project metrics and other performance indicators.
- Produces timely, pertinent, and accurate Project Status Reports to updates for key stakeholders.
- Escalates appropriately and in a timely manner to seek support or guidance to resolve obstacles and to continue meeting project objectives.
- Supports the extension or expansion of the project scope sharing information with appropriate internal stakeholders about additional Customer needs and using appropriate change management process.
- Captures lessons learned, project references or case studies, team performance assessments and client satisfaction feedback prior to project closure.
