Role Summary
The SAP S/4HANA MM Consultant – L4 will lead the design, configuration, implementation, enhancement, and support of SAP Materials Management solutions. The role requires deep functional expertise in procure-to-pay (P2P), inventory management, purchasing, valuation, invoice verification, and integration with SAP Finance and supply chain modules.
The consultant will act as a subject-matter expert, drive client workshops, translate business requirements into scalable SAP S/4HANA solutions, lead MM workstreams, mentor junior consultants, and ensure high-quality delivery across implementation, rollout, upgrade, and support engagements.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead SAP S/4HANA MM workstreams for implementation, rollout, migration, enhancement, and support projects.
• Conduct fit-to-standard workshops, requirement-gathering sessions, process assessments, and solution-design discussions with business stakeholders.
• Design, configure, test, and deploy SAP S/4HANA MM processes, including:
• Enterprise structure and organizational setup
• Material master and vendor/business partner master data
• Purchasing organization, purchasing groups, plants, storage locations, and valuation areas
• Purchase requisitions, requests for quotation, quotations, purchase orders, contracts, and scheduling agreements
• Source determination, source lists, quota arrangements, and purchasing info records
• Release strategies and flexible workflow for purchasing documents
• Inventory management, goods receipts, goods issues, transfer postings, physical inventory, and stock transfers
• Invoice verification, blocked invoices, invoice parking, and GR/IR reconciliation
• Material valuation, split valuation, account determination, and price control
• Consignment, subcontracting, third-party procurement, stock transport orders, and return processes
• Batch management, serial number management, and special procurement processes, where applicable
• Ensure seamless integration of MM processes with SAP FI/CO, SD, PP, QM, EWM/WM, Ariba, TM, and other relevant SAP modules.
• Lead design discussions for procure-to-pay processes and recommend SAP standard best practices while minimizing custom developments.
• Configure and support SAP Fiori applications, embedded analytics, workflows, approvals, and reporting related to procurement and inventory management.
• Analyze complex production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and provide sustainable solutions.
• Prepare functional specifications for reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, and workflows; coordinate closely with ABAP and integration teams.
• Support integration with external procurement platforms, supplier systems, tax engines, warehouse systems, and other third-party applications.
• Lead data migration activities for material masters, purchasing data, open POs, inventory balances, source lists, and related MM data objects.
• Define test strategy and lead unit testing, SIT, UAT, regression testing, defect management, and business sign-off.
• Support cutover planning, mock cutovers, go-live, hypercare, and post-production stabilization.
• Develop and review functional design documents, configuration documents, test scripts, training materials, and support runbooks.
• Mentor L1/L2/L3 consultants and review their configurations, functional specifications, and deliverables.
• Collaborate with project managers, solution architects, functional leads, business stakeholders, and technical teams to manage risks, dependencies, and delivery timelines.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• 8–12 years of SAP MM consulting experience, including significant hands-on experience in SAP S/4HANA.
• Strong expertise in end-to-end procure-to-pay and inventory management business processes.
• Proven hands-on configuration experience in:
• Purchasing and procurement processes
• Inventory management and physical inventory
• Material master and purchasing master data
• Material valuation and automatic account determination
• Invoice verification and GR/IR processes
• Source determination, quota arrangement, and release procedures/workflows
• Stock transport orders, subcontracting, consignment, and third-party processes
• Strong understanding of SAP S/4HANA simplifications and innovations in MM, including Business Partner integration, Fiori apps, flexible workflow, and embedded analytics.
• Strong knowledge of integration points between MM and FI/CO, SD, PP, QM, EWM/WM, and Ariba.
• Experience in at least one end-to-end SAP S/4HANA implementation or conversion project.
• Ability to lead workshops, independently manage an MM workstream, and communicate effectively with senior business stakeholders.
• Experience preparing functional specifications and working with ABAP, Basis, security, data migration, and integration teams.
• Strong experience in testing, defect management, cutover, go-live, and hypercare support.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Skills
• SAP certification in SAP S/4HANA Sourcing and Procurement or SAP MM.
• Experience with SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud or Public Cloud implementations.
• Knowledge of SAP Ariba Buying and Invoicing, SAP Ariba Sourcing, SAP Business Network, or SAP Fieldglass.
• Experience with SAP EWM, SAP TM, SAP IBP, or SAP MDG.
• Knowledge of SAP Activate methodology, SAP Best Practices, and clean-core principles.
• Experience in SAP S/4HANA conversion or ECC-to-S/4HANA migration projects.
• Exposure to SAP Fiori configuration, workflow design, and embedded analytics.
• Experience with manufacturing, retail, consumer products, automotive, pharmaceutical, or similar industries.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or SAP Cloud ALM.
